Boracay Named 2012 World’s Best Beach Destination

BORACAY ISLAND has been named the world’s best island destination for 2012. This is according to the Travel+Leisure Magazine. Business operators in this island are very pleased but have mentioned the need for infrastructure and environmental protection for it to retain its current beauty and potential.

According to Dionesio Salme, president of the Boracay Foundation Inc. or BFI, they are happy about the news but he admits that it is also difficult to keep their position. BFI is the organization of business operators and owners of Boracay.

The island is known for its powdery white sand and clear waters. And as such, it has been rated 93.10 putting in front of the famed island of the gods, Bali in Indonesia, at no. 2. Back in 2011, Boracay island resort was ranked fourth.

Travel+Leisure Magazine conducts this survey online among its readers each year to rate hotels, islands, destination spas, golf resorts, and other agencies.

Other places that made it on to the list include “Galapagos, Ecuador; Maui, Hawaii; Great Barrier Reef Islands, Australia; Santorini, Greece; Kauai, Hawaii; Big Island, Hawaii; Sicily, Italy; and Vancouver Island, British Columbia”.

The award received by Boracay is not surprise, as the number of tourist arrivals have consistently increased in 2009 from 649,559, and in 2010 from 779,666, to 908,875 in 2011.
