Royal Carribean Cruise Ship in Boracay
According to Director Helen J. Catalbas of Region 6 Department of Tourism, this is the first time that Region 6 had been visited by the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship. And with only two ports of call in the Philippines, one being the Port of Manila, the Port of Boracay had been chosen as the other.
She also added in a press conference with the Iloilo media that Boracay is already growing more popular especially in the cruise ship community and it already has schedules of cruise ship visits until 2014.
With the ship being so enormous, it dropped anchor in an area just close to Boracay and the passengers were transported through a pontoon which is a floating device or bridge where passengers pass through to get to the wharf. And when passengers reached the wharf, they were ushered towards their activities of choice like swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, shopping, and visiting boutiques and restaurants.
After their three-hour stay in the island, they headed for Taiwan as Boracay was their last stop in the Philippines.
“Building a pontoon is quite an expensive investment on the part of the provincial government, but since Boracay is included in the ports of call for the foreign cruise ships therefore it is worth an investment,” added Catalbas.
From January to September this year, there have already been 999,985 tourists who arrived on the island.
The features of the cruise ship that visited Boracay are a rock-climbing wall, outdoor pool, 4 whirlpools / Jacuzzis, indoor/outdoor pool in a Solarium with a sliding roof, 9-hole miniature golf course, beautiful glass-walled dining rooms, themed bars and lounges, centrum, an open atrium featuring shopping and more, Adventure Ocean® youth facilities, Casino RoyaleSM, and day spa and fitness center.
